three days of Christmas extravaganzas to document, but i'll start at the end with the "friends" gathering (versus one of the three family gatherings).
this was a regifting party...as in, everybody brought something they got for Christmas that they wanted to regift. the menu was preplanned and each person (or couple) was given a recipe for a dish and asked to bring a bottle of wine.
victoria and heather cleared out the living room and filled the space with immaculately decorated seating for 20.

This weekend I made 4 batches of pralines, Mt.St.Helens dip, spinach & artichoke dip, and Oreo truffles. Mainly it was prep for all the family Christmas parties coming up (MawMaw's for Christmas Eve, Aunt Judy's for Christmas Day lunch, and my house for brunch for dad's family on the 26th...as well as a wedding shower for my cousin, following the brunch). And I still have more to make, and plenty of cleaning to do. And work everyday. Woo hoo.
I decided my gift for my coworkers was just going to be a smorgasboard of all this food, rather than something for everybody individually. So tomorrow I'll just cover the table in the lunchroom with goodies, and they can all go into a sugar coma.

The Langley Schools Music Project is a collection of children's chorus recordings made from 1976-77 by Canadian music teacher Hans Fenger in a school gymnasium in Langley, British Columbia, near Vancouver. The students performed unique versions of pop hits by the likes of The Beach Boys, David Bowie, and Paul McCartney. The recordings were quickly forgotten until Victoria record collector Brian Linds found the first record in a thrift store and sent it to author, WFMU radio DJ, and "outsider music" enthusiast Irwin Chusid in 2000. After ten label rejections, Irwin managed to get the album released on Bar/None Records, and it immediately created an international buzz, making many end-of-the-year best album lists in 2001
i always hated the long and winding road until hearing the version on this album. |
